Let’s be honest, the BET Awards were pretty damn good last night. While some of the night’s sketches dragged, the performances definitely made up for it. The Prince tributes alone definitely made up for the fiasco that was the Madonna tribute.

From Beyoncè and Kendrick’s opening the awards with “Freedom” to Jennifer Hudson taking us to church with her powerful rendition of “Purple Rain,” here are the best performances from last night’s BET Awards.

Beyoncè and Kendrick perform “Freedom”:

Who could ask for a better opener than Beyoncè? With her long braids and dancers in tow, Bey took the stage to perform her powerful Lemonade hit, “Freedom.” Even Kendrick made a surprise appearance and spit a new verse on the track.

“What you want from me?/Is it truth you seek? Oh father can you hear me?/What you want from me?/Is it truth you seek? Oh father can you hear me?” The two artists danced their way into our living rooms.
